About Luminary

Luminary is a learning management system (LMS) designed for the creative sector. The idea came about when the team noted how difficult it was to access learning from professionals without large fees or subscription models. This can restrict learning and development within small and micro businesses, hindering their ability to grow. Traditional LMS platforms also have a high access to entry, either with high fees or requiring users to be accredited before they can publish courses. This makes it almost impossible for small businesses and freelancers to not only learn, but to promote their knowledge and share their expertise. This is the space Jolly Good Web is looking to fill, removing these barriers to entry and improving the reach of skilled individuals.

Luminary will provide an affordable place for users to host and access course content. Access to the platform is completely free for all users, and it is the decision of the course creator whether to make their content available for free or behind a pay wall. Courses and content will vary across different formats such as videos, downloadable resources, podcasts, and quizzes. Built for creative industry professionals, content will be representative of that with subjects from digital tools to business management. All content will be subject to peer reviews and undergo manual reviews to maintain quality and standard expectations.

The platform will offer a white-labelling functionality, which will allow organisations to license a version of the platform, complete with customisable branding to be used for internal or external training.

Innovate UK

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, aims to accelerate business growth through facilities and funding. They look to create a better future for businesses, driving economic growth across regions in the UK.

The funding available through Innovate UK is highly competitive, and Jolly Good Web is proud to have been one of the few businesses selected to receive the grant, which will cover a six month period for the project running from October 2025 - March 2026.

In total, Innovate UK provided 70% of the funding for the £142,446 project.

Local and Nationwide Impact

Based in the Mosaic Digital Hub in Lincoln, Jolly Good Web is well-integrated in the Lincoln digital and creative space. We have used this to discuss opportunities with local businesses including Tim Gutteridge from Propel Growth Ltd, who has agreed to be one of the first to add initial course content to the platform. This content will be available at the launch of Luminary, offering subjects surrounding digital marketing.

Luminary is not just a local project, it’s been specifically designed to be scaled and for businesses all across the creative sector to utilise. The white-labelling functionality will allow organisations to launch learning courses and resources with their own branding.

Build

As a website design agency, Jolly Good Web has a team of experienced designers and developers who are all working to provide their expertise on the build of the new platform. With dedicated UX designers and experts in functionality, Luminary will be built with modern infrastructure to be practical and user friendly.

The Innovate UK grant has allowed the team to create this project with a six-month turnaround that would otherwise have not been possible in this timeframe.

Launch

Jolly Good Web is set to launch Luminary in March 2026 and will be available immediately for accessing and uploading courses. If you’re interested in white-labelling Luminary for your own brand and internal resources, get in touch with us today.
